Find IDF Soldiers, The Maple’s database of Canadians who have joined the Israeli military, contains more than 2,200 links spread between the 206 profiles on the website. All of the links were active as of the date each profile was published.
In an effort to keep the database as clean as possible, I’ve run occasional scans of the site with third-party software that returns reports on dead links. These scans have found dozens of them.
In some cases, these links have been to material that describes an individual’s involvement in the Israeli military. There have also been cases where an existing piece of content has been edited to remove mentions of participation in the Israeli military, or where it has been made private.
In order to preserve the public record, this article lists all the dead links and modified content I’ve discovered pertaining to Israeli military service. It’s likely that the article doesn’t contain all existing examples due to potential inadequacies in the collection process, such as that some sources are only textually linked on the site, meaning an automated program can’t pick them up.
In most cases, it’s unclear who removed or edited the content, or why they may have done so. This article is not being published to make any accusations about why content has been removed or edited, but merely to note that it has happened.
Below, you’ll find a list of soldiers whose profiles contain links to pages mentioning their Israeli military service that have since been deleted or altered. We’re not suggesting the named individuals were responsible for these changes. The names with asterisks beside them are ones who have served in the Israeli military since Oct. 7, 2023.
Each profile contains the host of the relevant link, the date it was first published on Find IDF Soldiers, the last-known time it was online, the relevant material it contained (quoted from the profile and/or the source itself), and links to public archived copies of the content that were made before the material was deleted or altered. In cases where material was altered, the nature of the changes is also explained.
This article will occasionally be updated should any further deletions or alterations be made to existing links on the Find IDF Soldiers website.

Burke told the publication: ‘[Canada] wasn’t my home because of the people and Israel is my home. I tell everybody that when I went to Israel, I finally felt safe in a country that you shouldn’t feel so safe in, but it is my safe place.’ She also noted that her parents are ‘proud’ of her. The publication reported that Burke willingly chose to join an Israeli military combat unit, and had been in an Air Force Iron Dome battery near Eilat for six months at the time of publication.” (Find IDF Soldiers)

The article noted that the school arranges a trip to Israel each year for its graduating class, and it was a moment on this trip that ‘clinched his decision to join the IDF. [...]
Faintuch would go on to serve in the Israeli military for 18 months between 2011 and 2012 as an infantry member of the Nahal Brigade, and was stationed near Gaza. The publication wrote: ‘His principal duties in the army were manning a heavy machine gun and operating a remote control overhead weapons system. “I sat in a vehicle – with a 50-calibre machine gun on the top – and operated a joystick connected to a camera,” he said. “I was supposed to surveil the surrounding area and provide cover for my other team members should we find ourselves in a combat situation.”’ [...]
The Jewish Post News article noted that Faintuch’s mother, Shelley Faintuch, is part of the reason he joined the Israeli military, and described her as ‘a leader in Israel-related programs and activities in our community.’” (Find IDF Soldiers) - Archived copies: Archive Today; Wayback Machine

He is featured in the fall/winter 2015 issue in an article titled, ‘Doing My Part: Joining The IDF,’ where he is described as ‘a prime example of TanenbaumCHAT alumni showing their commitment to Israel.’ The article features an excerpt of a speech he gave at the United Jewish Appeal 2015 campaign launch: ‘I am 24 years old and have grown up as a very active member of the Toronto Jewish community. For as long as I can remember, my family has been connected to and involved with UJA. While still in a stroller, I participated in my first UJA walkathon. […]
My parents, Jack and Sandra, have been active volunteers and long-time supporters of UJA. They worked hard to ensure that my brothers Adam ’04 and Mathew ’06, my sister Orly ’09 and I all received a strong Jewish education […]
My Gap Year after TanenbaumCHAT was spent learning at Yeshiva in Israel, followed by the University of Western Ontario, Ivey School of Business. At Western, like many TanenbaumCHAT alumni, I participated in Hillel’s Israel on Campus activities. After graduating from Ivey in 2013, I decided to join the Israel Defense Forces. I believe that everyone needs to do something to support Israel. I was drafted on July 1, 2013 and spent the past 14 months serving as a paratrooper.
This summer, I was actively involved in Operation Brothers Keeper, searching for the missing teenagers, and in Operation Protective Edge in Gaza. I was honoured to serve as a paratrooper. My unit and the entire Israeli army were motivated to defend the land of Israel, our homeland, the Israeli people, and the safety and freedom of Jews around the world. Tragically, too many who served were killed or wounded in the conflict.’” (Find IDF Soldiers) - Archived copies: Archive Today; Wayback Machine
