On the latest episode of The Maple's North Untapped podcast, we spoke to Joyce Arthur, executive director of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada, about the U.S. Supreme Court's leaked decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and what this could mean for the future of abortion rights and access in Canada.

Regarding the decision in the U.S., Arthur said:

"It was so upsetting; I literally just started to cry. We have been expecting the decision ... but to actually see it happen, to learn about it, like two months in advance, basically, and to have it there on the page in front of you and your computer screen was so shocking and unnerving. It's terrible."

She continued:

"This is going to hurt and harm so many people in the U.S., the most disadvantaged people, women of colour, people living in poverty, marginalized communities like trans people and ethnic minorities."
